A week in Chicago!
Sometimes its easy to live (and design) in a bubble. Day after day we sit at our desks or work in our offices, and forget there is a whole world out there waiting to be explored.
When I was invited to go to Chicago to learn about Monogram Appliances, I jumped at the chance. Although my year started with back to back trips to Mexico, I was definitely feeling stuck in a rut and ready to get the heck out of dodge.
Although I’d been to Chicago twice before (once as a young adult in the first few years of my interior design program and once with my husband just a year and a half ago), I don’t feel like I really experienced it as the fabulous design hub it is (The trip I took as a 22 year old is mostly gone from my memory after having children!).
We were treated to a fabulous dinner our first night, then the following day was all about the Monogram Appliances training session and absorbing as much information about them as we could.
We got to cook lunch and test everything out and I was definitely impressed with the appliances but am excited to learn even more.
After a full day of learning, we had an hour or two to decompress before we set sail on an architectural boar tour on the Chicago river. It was chilly but so fun and it’s always fascinating to see the Chicago skyline.
After a really good breakfast on day three, we were on our own to explore or head home. A friend and I stayed a few extra days and headed back to the Merchandise Mart, explored a modern art gallery and hit several Nordstrom Racks where five pairs of shoes made their way into my shopping cart.
All in all, it was a grand time and a much needed break from routine. It felt so good to get away, see the world and I came back far lighter and more inspired.
If you’ve never been to Chicago, I highly recommend it. Aside from the design inspiration, we had THE BEST food including a gluten free brownie (that i ate for breakfast) and still dream about.
