Behind The Design: The Value Of Rendering

We offer 3D Renderings as one of our services to all clients no matter the type or size of the job. It is a valuable tool to aid in visualization and help us with volumetric design elements. Renderings help to communicate the scale of materials within a space and the relationship they have with each other. They help us understand the home in its entirety better and consider construction details earlier in the process and in greater detail. The final renderings at the presentation also gets you excited about your new home!

How 3D Renderings Aid You:

The biggest benefit to getting your home or parts of your home rendered out in 3D is that you get to see the final product so much sooner! We will have the renderings, whether the whole home or specific areas, at the presentation so you will not only see all of the material samples in person but you can visualize them in the space.

We love that clients get to see the space with finishes and furniture in this digital way before construction has even begun. Throughout the construction process you have this beautiful reminder of where you’re headed and we love to show the complete design as a whole so that every intricacy makes sense.

We knit together your spaces with a thoughtfulness that is intertwined throughout the whole home so if you don’t see everything together, at once, the individual elements can feel out of context. The renderings help us tell you the story of your home without sparing any details.

How 3D Renderings Aid Us:

We love getting to produce renderings for you! They are fun to create and build and as we are doing so we get so excited watching our vision come to life. It's also a useful tool to visualize our ideas and refine them to be the correct proportion or in the right location. We also love using it to help us design volumetrically. We want the floor plan and the location of furniture to speak to what is happening on the ceiling. We want them to feel connected and play off each other and being able to determine locations of lighting and ceiling details or bulkheads in 3D helps us with the flow of each space.

We recently had a project with a lot of different ceiling heights and vaults and because the space was a fairly open concept we had to figure out how each of these areas transitioned into the next. Getting to build the ceiling and then seeing how it interacted with each room and the placement of walls ultimately changed our initial direction and the final product was streamlined to fit the concept for the home and check the clients boxes.

Other Ways We Use Rendering as a Tool:

We are able to put your art right into the model. All we have to do is take a picture straight on and then crop the image and import it into Sketchup. We can even change the frame if that's something you are hoping to do. We had a client that had a large piece in their current living room and we all unanimously decided that it needed to be in their new dining room. So we reflected that in the rendering and it added that personal touch that made the space feel even more like home.

Sketchup has a huge warehouse of furniture and lighting so we are able to put the pieces we are selecting into the model to show you how the space will function. Using it to reflect the scale of lighting over a dining table or in an entryway is another thing we do often. We are able to confirm that sizes are working not just in plan but volumetrically and confirm clearances are functional in regards to how you will be using the space.

As previously mentioned we have physical samples on the table at presentation so that you can pick it up and get a feel for the texture and see an accurate representation of the colour but the scale of these samples is hard to communicate on the table. Clients are often wondering “well how much of this tile will be in my dining room?” This happens especially if the tile has a unique color to it. On the table it might feel like it's overpowering the materials that will be surrounding it. So we show it to you in the Renderings and you get to see the relationship it has with the upholstered dining chairs and get a better understanding of the vision we have for the space.

We are always aiming to shed light on why we find certain tools valuable so that our clients can have a better understanding of what they are paying for and why. Once you have all of the information you can then figure out how it benefits you and if you see value in it.
