Design Trends - Love them or Hate them?

We want to know all your thoughts on some of the new things we have been seeing in design over the last few years. Trends normally come and go, but we have selected some “Design Trends” that have circled back around and we believe they are here to stay. Timeless design concepts that have their roots in the past show up with a longevity that can’t be classified as trendy. We are going to break down what we think they is sticking around and why, but we want to know what you think! Is it timeless or is it trendy?

Bold Color Combinations - Saturated Paint and High Contrast Spaces

For a while we have been seeing muddy paint colours that are made up of a neutral base like taupe or grey and have hints of blue, green or even purple. This is a tried and true way to add some unexpected interest into a space. Lately we have been moving into more saturated colours. In paint and in other design accents like cushions or drapery, maybe even a sofa or a rug. Do you think saturated high contrast spaces are here to stay? Or is this a trend that will pass? Bold colour may not be for everyone but if you want to see colour in your space we will always say go for it!

Enclosed Kitchens - Are Open Concepts Old News?

The open concept has been around for so long that it is becoming an industry standard. The large spaces that house both the living room and the kitchen are great for entertaining and have the ability to adapt to your lifestyle. They are classic and flexible which is often what people are looking for. Lately we have started to see the enclosed kitchen make a sneaky return. Do you think it's hopping on the art deco and mid century modern train in hopes it can stick around or do you think separating our spaces might still have a place in the design world?

Plaster Accents - Texture and Grit

Plaster application and textured walls have broken into the design world with a determination to stick around. This subtle texture reaches beyond wallpaper and integrates a raw natural grit into a space that is stunning. There are so many applications and room for customization that we believe this is here to stay. The possibilities are truly endless and the interest it adds to a space is both subtle but impactful and guaranteed to start a conversation. What do you think? Is plaster a thing of the past or is it that added interest you have been looking for?

Brass Accents - Timeless or Overdone?

Brass came back just in time to warm up all of our kitchens. Thankfully it was never the brass of the past because that reflective yellow had its time and we are happy to leave it where it is. The brass of today is subtle and satin and has the power to transform a space with the warmth it brings. We think brass finishes are the perfect accompaniment to certain design styles. Do you think it's yet again been overdone? Should it stay away from lights and faucets and remain on mirrors and antiques or was it exactly what your space was missing? It was definitely the missing piece in our Bearspaw Project but we understand it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Let us know your thoughts over on Instagram!

Laundry & Powder Rooms - Full of Personality

We love adding unexpected bold elements to laundry rooms and powder rooms. We believe these are spaces you can comfortably step outside of your comfort zone in. Certain areas of your home can feel daunting or too permanent to go bold in even if you really like colour and pattern. We always find ways to introduce those elements that are “uniquely you” in applications that feel timeless and not like something you’ll tire of. Secondary spaces like the laundry or the powder room are great areas to lean into your bold side. Walking down the hallway and passing a space full of intrigue never gets old. You may not be ready for koi fish and that's okay as we are sure to find something that you love!

We are always aiming for timeless design that will feel like you for as long as you’re in that space. We want to know what you love and when we show you a fabric or wallpaper sample and you say “yes! that’s it!” We don’t care if it's “trendy”. Your happiness is our priority and we are striving to pull things together that produce that kind of honest excitement. With our signature style we have a timeless application that will emanate you.
