Las Vegas Furniture Market - SCID takeaways!

We’re back after a delightful and exhausting week in Las Vegas for the yearly LVFM (Las Vegas Furniture Market or #LVFM).

Every year, designers, buyers and vendors attend the show, either in Las Vegas or High Point, North Carolina. Vegas is a paired down event compared to High Point - and a bit more attainable as the show in North Carolina is a further trip and a bit more isolated.

I hear once you are there, there isn’t much more than the market and there’s no Starbucks easily accessed. Ummm… that alone makes me want to never ever go.

High Point is also a much larger market - multiple buildings that are full of floors of furniture! I’m a little intimidated by it… The LVFM consists of three main buildings with five to ten floors each. And that alone is A LOT.

We walked and walked for hours looking at furniture, lighting and decor - learning about it and documenting things of interest to us… and by the end of the day, we were pooped! However, we are extremely excited and inspired by what we saw and full of information that we are excited to bring into our design projects.

Here’s what we came away with and how our field trip is of benefit to our clients…

Textures, Earth tones and Curvy Lines…

Textural fabric was seen in nearly every showroom on sofas, chairs, benches and beds! While some of it was insanely textural (think teddy bear fabric), much of it was shown in boucles, velvets and textural chenilles. You may have seen a poll I posted on Instagram asking what people thought about the fabrics we were seeing. I knew many of you would not be crazy about it.

I personally struggled with some of it as I just couldn’t imagine what it would look like after a few years of abuse by pets and kids! I mean, that middle chair looks so cozy and would be a dream to read in for a few hours, but I just envision it looking so worn out and OLD in a year or two!

Many of the showrooms had orange chairs or sofas! A lot of earth toned fabrics were shown and it is truly a delight to see this after a lot of grey these past years. As you can see, the above furniture also has softer lines and curves. It’s definitely something we’ll be seeing more of this year!

Natural Stone

Although it looks to be made of stone upon first glance, it’s actually concrete!

There were a lot of pieces like this one above (our favourite being a console table that I cannot find a photo of). Our immediate impression was that it was travertine, but found out it is actually made of concrete. These were really beautiful and we loved the earthy colours and patterns that made this an interesting piece.

We were impressed by the thoughtful details we saw on many of the pieces such as the quilted chevron back of this chair! These details make our job more fun and your home more interesting!

How do field trips like this benefit our clients? We get to actually sit on the product we specify, testing things out for comfort and functionality. We get to see the products in person and feel and see the quality of things with our own eyes. We get to discover new pieces and manufacturers rather than going to the same ones time and again.

All of this makes us more efficient as we can source quicker for your projects!

Here’s a photo dump of many of the other things we saw and loved… this blog post could go on and on as I play show and tell, but it’s time to wrap it up!
