Evanston - Before and After

This North West Calgary home is the perfect size for this professional couple and their two dogs, but it needed an update! As you can see from the before photos, it was dull, drab and dated! Out with the espresso floors and cabinets, bye bye to the glass backsplash and sparkly counters, and hello to a bright, cheery, timeless space that they’ll enjoy for years.

Let’s started with the client’s wish list …

We initially create a preliminary design concept, and once this is approved by the client we are on our way into Design Development. Keep in mind this concept below is an abridged version of what client’s see… we include descriptive words to capture the feel and style they want, they receive a “mock up” furniture pricing proposal so that we can determine the needed budget for what they need and we send a fee estimate.

Installing a brand new kitchen wasn’t in the budget, so we went for high impact choices such as painting out the cabinets, new counters, backsplash and brass hardware. We also designed a custom crown molding to fill in the gap between the ceiling and the cabinets. Haven’t met anyone yet that wants that dust collecting gap to stay!

Ripping out the existing hardwood floors helped change the space drastically as well. Dogs are cute but they are tough on floors - especially dark ones. So lighter oak flooring was in order - highly durable and the inevitable scratches don’t show as much.

New lighting was also added and it REALLY updated this space as well as the new furniture and window coverings. Their dining table was sprayed white and you’d never guess it was the same table from before. It looks like a brand new table! While we often get push back on custom draperies… once clients see what a difference they make in a space they understand why we insist on these!

We love how this home turned out! Our clients lived in their camper for weeks on end (with their two dogs!) while this renovation occurred and let me tell you they were so happy to move back home! Soon we’ll show you the living room portion of this updated home and probably more Alfie the dog, who hopped on the couch at the end of the shoot to have his moment in the spotlight!
